Who am I really?
Seems like an innocent question, right?
I am A:
Sister, cousin, niece, wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, friend, teacher, coach, publisher
I am INTO:
hiking, biking, paddle boarding , swimming , target shooting , archery, photography, videography, keyboarding, inner work, and learning Spanish
I have BEEN A :
student, waitress, television promoter, singer, dancer, actor, model, bank teller, marketing assistant, publicist, event planner/promoter, a tutor
I HAVE A:
24 year old son, a pitbull and a shih tzu. I’ve had 6 dogs, 2 ferrets, lots o’ rabbits, lizard, fish, and 2 tarantulas. ( did I really just put my son in with all the animals… ? Category: things I’ve I looked after…? LOL)
I cannot live without :
gallons of coffee, daily walks, my family, my friends, music, real books I can hold, and hardcore bush camping
I have BEEN through trauma:
parental abandonment, sexual abuse, many deaths of friends and loved ones, 8 different addictions, personal health crises, my son‘s health crisis, professional harassment, betrayal… and more
But none of these things define me… though they have made me stronger!
What defines me is my character…My qualities / core values that are aligned with my self identity….
My “ I AM”s
not my “I am A… “
or my “I like TO…”
or “I HAVE a…”
or “I have BEEN through…”
I AM :
Kind, generous, hard-working, intelligent, driven, fierce, helpful, empathetic, intuitive, creative, enthusiastic, fun, supportive, encouraging, positive, wacky, understanding, forgiving, strong powerful, unstoppable, loyal…
RESILIENT!
I can also BE:
Self critical, self doubting, negative, frustrated, anxious… even angry …
but these are not who I AM…
They are states of my “BE”ing… Things I can CHANGE!!!!!
And I work on it whenever they come up!
I’ve overcome a lot through some specific strategies… this one is important!!!
It isn’t “I want to BE more positive”
… it’s “I AM positive!”
Be clear in your mind about your IDENTITY
Use caution about how you define yourself in your head…
You are NOT :
the hats you wear, the roles you play, the things you’ve done, the things you are doing, the things you’ve been through, the ways you have been… you are NOT your past!
And please pay special attention to the things you say to yourself…
Be careful because you are always LISTENING!
I’m paraphrasing but :
“Whoever you THINK you are/aren’t… you’re right!”
